Monkey See; Monkey Do

I’m no good at this game and I don’t want to play it.
Just want to pick up my ball and go back home.
But every time I open my mouth to say it,
It gets stuck in my throat like a chicken bone.

I wish it was another game
That doesn’t always turn out the same.
Monkey see; monkey do
What a bunch of monkeys
I’m a monkey too.

We’ll stay right here ‘til the tide starts turning
Do the same thing over ‘til we get it right.
Everybody keep those campfires burning
‘ Cause the trees are filled with eyes tonight.

I wish it was another game
Instead of always just a different name
Monkey see; monkey do
I’m not afraid of no monkeys
‘ Cause I’m a monkey too.

God said to Noah, “Can you keep a little secret
From every innocent beast and every helpless child?
I’ll cut you a deal if you promise you’ll keep it
At the end of the tunnel where the bodies are piled.”

“Though I wish it was another game,
I’ve only got myself to blame.
Monkey see, monkey do.
It turns out
That I can be a monkey too.”
